Sun Power Natural Cafe

You must eat here at least once.
Sun Power Natural Cafe is a Raw/Vegan joint. It is not exclusively raw. As the below photo shows they have no problem serving up whole grain buns. The main chefs are Chef Rawsheed (really that's his name) and Chef Tigre. Rawsheed is the raw guru.
Everything was incredible. We rarely eat raw but after this meal that may change. The above is a Portobello Mushroom burger. This burger is raw, only the bun is cooked. Unbelievable. The sauce and the cashew cheese are the keys to this dish.

This is the ALL RAW Pesto Pizza. Don't be surprised to find out that Raw doesn't taste like the "real" thing because it was never intended to be a replacement dish. This pizza has a taste and flavor all it's own. You can taste every vegetable ingredient it's like a mini explosion in the mouth. This is a must order.
The biggest SURPRISE of the entire cafe are the shakes. The one pictured here is 1/4 the normal size. The shakes are so LARGE we split it among 4 people. We ordered the adventurous KALE SHAKE. That sounds disgusting but believe me this taste better than ANY shake I have ever had and it is VEGAN.
It's Vegan, It tastes good, and it's Kale? Is there a catch. Yes. It's the cashews. I asked how many calories are in the full drink and my question was meet with sly smile. That lack of a response says it all. The catch or gotcha is in the calories. It's got to be packed full of cals.
I've always been perplexed when I would meet chubby or fat people that immediately tell me they have been vegetarians for decades. How is that possible, I thought to myself? In the 70's hippie movement I was always under the impression that those vegetarians and vegans were skinny.
Todays Vegan restaurants are so good and clever at their dishes you can not only have a delicious, tasty, flavor packed meal, it can also be calorie packed as well. You can also gain weight and get fat from vegan dishes. There is always a trade off.

Parking sucks because of the location but order ahead for takeout and park in the alley, they will bring the food to you. You must eat here at least once before you die or leave L.A. whichever comes first.

hi mary, this is an interesting topic huh? i've done a lot of study on this.. i think people DO tend to put on weight when they stop eating animal meat and animal products...due to the loss of protein

many of the food options left for vegans are not ideal for our bodies in term of efficient usage of calories (something protein is essential for), so more often then not these foods consumed by vegans get stored as fat when eaten consistently and in abudance.. (like pasta, rice, carbohydrates, sugars.. etc etc..)
esp fattening high calorie foods...
you can be vegan and still eat junk food! lol

just my 2cents.
